Tribe Called Quest was the reason I got into and loved Hip Hop at a young age. Phife Dawg's lyrics and melodic flow over beats brought a rawness that was complimented by Q-Tip's smooth delivery. These are some of my favorite Phife verses from each album (well most). Here's a clip from "Electric Relaxtion" on Midnight Marauders. RIP Phife Dawg, your songs and legacy will live on.
My 2nd Phife Dawg clip is from "1nce Again" on Beats, Rhymes, and Life 🔊 I remember mixing this song when I first started Djing. Love how Phife comes in raw on the beat right after a soulful intro from Tammy Lucas. Definitely a song that needs to come back into my weekly rotation.
My 3rd Phife Dawg clip is from "Scenario" on Low End Theory. Honestly, it was hard to pick my favorite verse from this album since this is such a classic (his verses on "Buggin Out" and "Show Business" are some of my favs). One of the best Hip Hop tracks of all time, everyone knows Phife's verse and this will always get a party up on its feet 🔊 "Bust a nut inside your eye, to show you where I come from" is still one of my favorite lines of all time...
My 4th Phife Dawg clip is from the classic "Can I Kick It?" from People's Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm. The Tribe song that got me hooked, it always gives me good memories and vibes every time I hear it 😄
Thanks again Phife for blessing every person and Dj with your music, you've made Doomz appreciate and embody the soul of Hip Hop. Rest in paradise!
